Fair questions.
Is it actually hot and strong, or another tepid gadget?
Hot. The water reaches brewing temperature — around 92°C — before it hits the coffee, and it does that from cold water in the machine, not from a kettle. Strength comes from pressure: 20 bar, which is what produces crema rather than a thin pour.
What it isn't: a $700 machine. It won't out-extract a Breville and we won't pretend it does. It makes a real, hot, short shot at a desk where the alternative was brown water.
How long does it actually take?
About three minutes from cold water to a finished shot, most of which is heating. If you fill it the night before, the morning is one button and a wait shorter than the meeting you're about to join.
Faster option: pour in hot water if you happen to have some, and it brews almost immediately.
How many coffees per charge?
Two to three if you heat cold water every time — that's where the power goes. Charge it at your desk from the same USB-C brick as your laptop and it's never an issue. If you start with hot water it goes far longer, but that defeats the point.
Will it work with my coffee?
Both. Nespresso® Original-line capsules and compatible supermarket ones, or your own grounds in the included basket. Vertuo capsules don't fit — different format, no machine in this class takes them.
If you're using grounds: a slightly coarser grind than you'd use on a home machine works better. That's in the Protocol guide.
Is it fiddly? Will I burn myself?
The water heats inside a sealed chamber — nothing exposed, nothing to pour. Assembly is screwing the basket on and pressing one button.
The honest caveat: with ground coffee, if you overfill or grind too fine, it can stall. Level scoop, slightly coarser grind, and it doesn't. Capsules skip the issue entirely.
How do I clean it at the office?
You don't. Capsule goes in the bin. Ground coffee stays a sealed puck in the basket — knock it out at home over your own bin. No sink, no rinsing at a desk, no grounds on a keyboard.
Is this going to end up in a drawer?
Possibly. Most desk gadgets do. The ones that don't are the ones that fit an existing habit rather than asking for a new one — you already make coffee at 8:40 and again at 10:58, and this changes where, not whether.
Thirty days at your own desk. If it's in the drawer by then, send it back for a full refund and no questions.
How long is shipping, and who are you?
Eight to twelve days, tracked from the day it ships, duties and taxes covered. That's the real window — we'd rather set it correctly than apologize for a faster one.
